Overview
CYO provides opportunities for children in 3rd through 8th grades to participate in track and field. Participants compete
in one of three groups depending on their grade. Roadrunners are 3rd and 4th grade. Cubs are in the 5th and 6th grade. Cadets are
7th and 8th grade. Boys and girls generally compete in their own events.
Track season begins the week before spring break (3rd week of March) and continues until the middle of May. There are four developmental meets and a "Last Chance" qualifier during the regular season. These meets are intended to provide competitive opportunities for athletes in the Cub and Cadet divisions to improve their performance and obtain qualifying marks for the Meet of Champions. At the end of the season a series of championship meets are held. Roadrunners compete in the Roadrunner Championships. The Meet of Champions feature athletes who qualify and is a two-day meet with preliminaries and finals in the sprints and short relays. For teams that want a little extra competition there is an evening "relays only" meet late in the season open to cubs and cadets. |

Regular Season
Description of CYO Track & Field Meets
Regular season meets are qualifying meets. To qualify for the CYO Meet of Champions a participant must qualify at one of these four meets. Qualifying standards CYO Relays is a meet that is open to cubs and cadets from CYO. Schools outside of CYO may be invited by CYO for the purpose of cross competition and exhibiting the CYO program. The format of this meet is strictly relays both running and field event. This meet will be entered through a separate registration form and fee payment. CYO Roadrunner Meet is an end of the season championship meet for 3rd and 4th graders where ribbons/ ice cream, and fun rule the day. Pre-registration will be required. The meet will be scored and 1st thru 3rd place trophies will be awarded as determined by overall team scores. This meet ends the season for Roadrunners. CYO Last Chance Qualifier Meet is a meet for those participants who have not yet qualified for the Meet of Champions. Athletes must: 1) have competed in each of their entered event(s) at least once in a regular season meet, and 2) competed in at least 2 regular season meets. Pre-registration will be required. The events will include the 100, 200, 400, 800 meters, Long Jump, High Jump, Turbo Javelin, and Shot Put. Outside competition may be invited by CYO for this meet. Individual events will be scored. CYO Meet of Champions - This is the CYO Championship meet. Participants must qualify in their event at a regular season qualifying meet or the CYO Last Chance Qualifier Meet to be eligible for the Meet of Champions. Records set at this meet become official CYO Track & Field records. This meet is for cubs and cadets. Cubs will awarded ribbons for 1st - 8th place. Medals are presented to places 1-6 and ribbons for 7th & 8th places for Cadets. Team trophies will be awarded to the top 3 teams for Cub Boys, Cub Girls, Cadet Boys, Cadet Girls, and overall combined team scores. In Addition every team receives one entry per event in the Meet of Champions, as long as they have participated in the event during the season. (This will ensure that teams are not excluded due to size of team) in other words, if a team doesn't have any athletes that qualified in an event, they could still enter one athlete in that event as long as those athletes have a time in that event during the current season. This is an either/or rule. If a team qualifies someone then they cannot enter someone who does not qualify. At the Meet of Champions athletes must be in the heat and lane that is printed on their label otherwise their time will not count and the results won't be accurate. |
